Our mission is to promote resilience among African American youth through the development and understanding of Humility, Encouragement, Resilience, Obedience, Interdependence and Christian Character (H.E.R.O.I.C.C.). There are four phases to our program.
1-2 hour walking experience on the
Richmond Slave Trail
Participants walk the same trail which our ancestors were forced to walk on their way to the auction block which is located in the middle of Market Street in Shockoe Bottom.
During this experience, participants will engage in activities which will simulate captivity, have discussions based on the artifacts located throughout the trail and at the end of the walk students will partake in a short debriefing activity prior to departure (parent pick up). Students may be asked to write about their experience as well.
Educational Activities. These assignments are developed based on the Six Pillars of H.E.R.O.I.CC.
Topics will include Christiaan based activities and assignments. Some topics will include up to nine modules which will be taught on a weekly basis.
Participants will develop a Personal Oath based on their beliefs.
There will be an Awards Ceremony for participants who have completed the first 3 phases of the program.
